How’s it going? I have been writing some really middle of the night posts lately, haven’t I? I ended up working super late tonight, then we put up our Christmas tree, finally! We have had a pretty late night here at the Morales home. Poor Joshy is passed out on the recliner right now! So while he sleeps, I will write a quick post for you on our Christmas mantel.
Like I mentioned last week, I was so excited to have a real fireplace when we moved to this ho
use, but for some reason, we didn’t decorate it last Christmas. I have put a lot of time and effort into my everyday decorations, so I have a hard time changing them out. This year is different because….
If you haven’t heard on Facebook…. MY SISTER AND BROTHER IN LAW ARE MOVING TO VEGAS! And that of course means, MY NEPHEW IS MOVING TO VEGAS! I could not be happier. We haven’t lived in the same state since high school! And, they have decided to move into the apartment right next to ours, which we always talked about doing when I was a kid! I can’t believe it is actually happening! I think I will be in shock until the moving truck shows up!
They will be moving right before Christmas, so they will not be able to put any decorations up. Since this will be G’s first Christmas, I am trying to decorate and make it special for him–not that he will remember it, he is only 6 months old–but for photo sake.
Everything we used was purchased for $1, either from the 99 cent store or from a thrift store. I bought two different sized clear vases and filled them with two different types of flowers, a giant red rose and a branch of evergreen with red berries. I also bought little candle holders and electric candles. All of these items came from the 99 cent store.
I love the look of the vases with the lights behind them. It reminds me of diamonds or snow. It is so pretty when the lights are off. I love it it just glistens. I have to admit, I haven’t unplugged them since I put them up! The lights are meant for outdoors, so they are really long and go all the way around the room. I put them in the windows as well. I decided not to do any outside lights this year, so that will have to suffice for outdoor decorating.
I found the stockings at a local thrift store. The dogs’ stockings are my favorite. One once side it says nice, and on the other it says naughty. Oliver’s has a little bell on it, which he loves. I like mismatched things, so these stockings make me happy.I used command hooks to hang them. I could not find any of the stocking holders that I liked. Since I have so much on the mantel already, I think it would have been too much with stocking holders anyways. I put the hooks backwards so that the stockings would hang from them.
The lamp, mirror, wreath and picture frame are a part of our normal mantel decor. I thought they were good anchor pieces. I did add the big bow to the wreath. It is just one that you would put on a present. The lights we got at Target last year after Christmas for really cheap…like less than $.50 cheap. You know how much I love Target after holidays!
Our total out of pocket was about $25.
I am really happy with how it turned out. I think it is simple but really says Christmas. I can’t wait to light a fire on Christmas morning and curl up on the couch while my little G opens all of his presents. Have I mentioned how excited I am about them moving here??? Because I am!
I am hopefully going to do some couponing tomorrow, so look out for that on Friday! I have quite a lot of ECB to use from Black Friday at CVS! For now though, I am off to bed! It is after 1 AM here! Way past my normal bed time!
